Spending a lot of time in front of the computer can take a toll on our body and mind. It is important for our mental and physical health that we spend time doing something to keep us mindful during this time.

If you find yourself overwhelmed and unable to focus take some time for yourself and participate in some simple mindfulness activities.

1. Body Scan: For this exercise you can simply follow a video. This video will guide you through a body scan and tell you exactly what to do. Body scans can be 5 min or 30 min depends are what you need.

Some links to body scans:

** If you feel these videos do not fit your need simply search body scans on google and find the best one for you.

2. Develop a calm space: To do this activity you need to completely unplug from everything around you. That includes music, noise from a TV, or talking from a family member.

Get in a comfortable position, this can be laying on your bed, sitting on the couch, laying on the floor, or anywhere else you feel most comfortable and relaxed. Once you are comfortable you are now ready to start creating your calm space.

-Determine a location (beach, garden, park, anywhere you feel calm)

-What do you see? ( Birds, trees, flowers, etc.)

-What do you smell? (Flowers, salty water, etc.)

-What do you hear? (waves crashing, people laughing, etc.)

-What can you touch? (sand, grass, etc.)

-What can you taste? ( cold water, your favorite food, etc.)

Once you have created you calm space spend some time exploring it in your mind. You may add new things that you see, hear, smell, touch, and taste as you are imagining it. This is a space for you and only you to explore. Spend as much or as little time as you need in this space.

3. Practice deep breathing: spending a few minutes focusing solely on your breathing can help ground you during a stressful time. Breathing is something that we do all day everyday, but never focus on. If we take 5 minutes to focus on our breathing our mind with be less crowded and we will be able to be more productive in our work.

If you are feeling overwhelmed with your school work practice some of these breathing techniques. These should be done in a quite space with no distractions.
