Has there ever been a time when you felt overwhelmed or emotionally drained because everything around you was not going as planned? Maybe you are following behind on school work, fighting with your parents, not sleeping properly, and just overall having some really bad day? Sometimes when a lot of things around us are not going our way we start to forget about taking care of yourself. Here are some tips to take care of your mind.

1. Have FUN and do something that you love EVERYDAY!

Sometime we get caught up in the things that we have to do everyday and forget about what we actually want to do. School work, work, cleaning, cooking, helping others are all things that we feel we have to do. What we really need to do is have fun and do what we love. Maybe you want to dance, draw, watch a comedy, turn off your phone, workout, go for a walk, the list is endless but pick something to do everyday!

2. When you start to feel overwhelmed TAKE a BREAK!

No one is requiring you to continue on tasks if you feel overwhelmed. We all need a break sometimes. Even if it is just taking 5 minutes to listen to a song or close our eyes and breath. We all need a BREAK! We can not run on EMPTY!

3. TALK or WRITE it out

You do not need to keep everything bottled up inside. Sometimes taking a few minutes to talk your feelings out with someone can help! Find a person that you trust and get everything off your chest. If you find it hard to talk to someone about what is going on write in a journal instead. As long as you are finding an outlet to get what is bothering you out in the open.

4. Don't take on a lot of negativity!

Sometimes you may need to distance yourself from people who are negative. We should not take on the negativity the others are dealing with into our own lives. The negativity can cause us to be overwhelmed.

5. Turn off Social Media, cell phone and electronics!

It is OKAY to DISCONNECT! You do not need to answer your phone 24/7 or make sure you are up to date on everything that is on social media. Disconnecting from the world for a few hours can be extremely important for your mental health.
